Michael Holz

I have been collecting still banks since 1978 when I purchased a Prancing Horse bank at a local flea market for $2.00.  I bought it as a gift for my Dad who had a small collection of toys and banks, but I liked it so much I decided to keep it myself.  I started collecting all types of banks, but it wasn’t until I was showing my Dad a recent safe bank purchase that I had any interest in specializing in a particular genre.  He commented – ‘Why would anyone want to collect safes?  There must be a hundred of them out there.’.   The challenge was on!  While I still collect a little of everything, I have actively focused on safe banks since the late 1990’s.

My collecting experience has been greatly enhanced by meeting and interacting with other still bank collectors.  In 1991 I joined the Still Bank Collectors Club of America.  Through this organization I have had the opportunity to meet other collectors and view private collections by attending the Annual Convention.  The convention host and location changes from year to year, but it is typically held in June.  I have served on their Board of Directors and am a past President.  In 2009 my wife and I hosted the Annual Convention in Gettysburg, PA.

I currently reside in York County, PA with my wife Beth and our two teenage children.
